FAQs

Who should see a Men’s Health Physiotherapist?

Men’s Health Physiotherapy can be useful for blokes with issues such as:

  • Incontinence
  • After dribble
  • Pelvic pain
  • Urgency
  • Bowel dysfunction
  • Erectile dysfunction

Physiotherapy can also be very important for those suffering from prostate disease or embarking on prostate disease treatment (e.g. surgery or radiation).

What type of benefits could I get from Men’s Health Physiotherapy?

As a relatively new area of Physiotherapy, it is an exciting period for Men’s Health. Research evidence is growing by the month. Key findings to date include:

  • Pre-operative Physiotherapy can improve continence outcomes following removal of the prostate
  • Expert Physiotherapy, including pelvic floor/urethral training via transperineal ultrasound (as used at mhPT), results in better continence outcomes
  • General exercise, pelvic floor exercises and other types of Physiotherapy interventions can complement medical management of erectile dysfunction

Does mhPT only do Men’s Health Physiotherapy?

No. Although mhPT certainly aims to help men with their pelvic health issues, we are also well placed to assist all community members with musculoskeletal concerns. Corey Pendlebury, owner and operator of mhPT, is also an experienced and passionate musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.

Will I be eligible for a rebate?

Physiotherapy is often covered under Private Health Insurance Extra’s Cover. You’ll need to check the status of your individual insurance policy to confirm your eligibility for a rebate. Medicare rebates are available for eligible patients with a valid medical officer referral under a Chronic Disease Management Plan. mhPT is also a proud supporter of our veterans and is therefore an active DVA provider. Those with a valid DVA card (and depending on their accepted conditions) may be eligible to access our services.
